The 1990 Classic Marathon released on DVD

More than 100 cars, each over 25-years-old, gather in London at the start of an epic journey across Europe – and you can join them!

Duke is delighted to announce the release of the 1990 running of the Classic Marathon on DVD for the first time. This is the latest addition to the collectable series of Classic Marathon reviews.

The film, narrated by the legendary Murray Walker, follows the trials and tribulations of 118 vintage cars as they travel 2,000 miles from London to northern Italy, through Belgium, Germany and Austria, taking on some of the most gruelling roads and toughest tests imaginable as they go.

The ‘90 event featured an all-star cast of legendary drivers, including Stirling Moss, Clay Regazzoni, Roger Clark, Paddy Hopkirk and three-times Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser.

However, for many viewers, the cars are the stars – and what a line up!

There’s Jaguar, Mini Cooper, MGB, Triumph, Aston Martin, Porsche, Healey, Mercedes, Morgan, Alfa Romeo and many, many more.

This programme shows these classic wonders in action on the Lydden Circuit in Kent, racing through European villages, touring the continent and taking on the awesome challenges posed by the Alpine passes.

An absolute highlight is the infamous Stelvio – eight miles, 48 hairpins and all uphill!

Wonderful camerawork captures the action, atmosphere and spectacular scenery, while in-car footage puts you alongside driving greats like Moss, Hopkirk and Unser.

As well as a celebration of these incredible vintage machines, the 1990 Classic Marathon became a hotly contested battle for victory, and sometimes the frustration of the leading drivers is graphically shown. There are all trying hard, some perhaps too hard – watch out for the fate of Unser’s E-type Jaguar after a run-in with a bus!

This is a true celebration of a Golden Era of motoring.
