Rally-Driver.com: HRCR encourages pre '60 cars into action HRCR encourages pre '60 cars into action ================================================================================ Elton on 09 October, 2007 12:00:00 The Historic Rally Car Register is keen to encourage more pre '60 cars into action, whether in all-out stage rallies, daylight navigational events or scenic tours. While the cut-off for historic rally cars is generally 1981, the HRCR's roots lay in cars from the 1950s and 1960s and the register is very keen to see the older cars continuing to be used. "As someone who sometimes rallies a pre '60 car, I particularly welcome this initiative," says HRCR chairman Chris Hunt Cooke. In 2008, there will be at least five series of events where pre '60 cars are extremely welcome. The newly announced HRCR Historic Stage Rally Challenge is solely for category 1 (pre '68) cars and will have classes and awards devoted to the pre '60 cars. The new six-round series starts on the Wyedean Forest Stages in February. The new-for-2008 'HRCR 100 Rally Series' of daytime regularity rallies aimed at newcomers is perfect for older cars and a series of dates for events across the country will be announced shortly. The HRCR Night Rally Championship and the HRCR Clubmans Rally Championship both offer competitive road rallying for cars of the 1950s, with the Clubmans events generally being based on regularity sections and special tests. Finally, for owners who prefer non-competitive events, the series of HRCR Scenic Tours is the ideal way to enjoy a car of the 1950s in the company of like-minded individuals. To mark the initiative to keep the pre '60 cars active, HRCR member Keith Wilson has donated two special Pre '60 Trophies. The trophies represent popular rally cars of the period; one is a model of an Austin Healey Sprite and one is a model of a Volvo PV544. The trophies will be presented annually for the best performance in a pre '60 car across the HRCR's range of events.
