HRCR plans for the future

The management committee of the Historic Rally Car Register met last week (Tuesday 7 August) for a special four-hour meeting devoted to planning the future development of the organisation.

Discussions were wide-ranging and, at times, radical, with a broad spectrum of HRCR activities coming under the spotlight.

Key topics discussed included:
HRCR championships, both on and off-road
Communications with members, including 'Old Stager' magazine
Encouraging new members into competition
Keeping cars from the 1950s and 1960s in competition
Development of the HRCR website
Benefits for members
Exhibitions and events

Initial action as a result of the meeting is likely to include the creation of two new HRCR competition series, one for road rallying and one for stage rallying. Both series are being developed to allow new and existing members to compete in affordable events and will particularly be designed to encourage older cars back into competition. More details about both series will be announced shortly.

The HRCR has always considered 'Old Stager' magazine to be one of the club's major assets. Forthcoming improvements will include a move to an all-colour format and development of the content to reflect the ever-growing interest in all forms of historic rallying.

"It was extremely useful to put aside the normal business of committee meetings and allow wide-ranging discussions about the current and future role of the HRCR," said chairman Chris Hunt Cooke. "Some excellent new ideas have already been put forward and there will be some exciting announcements to come over the next few months."
