AUDISOUTHWEST.COM SOUTH WEST ENDURANCE RALLY 2008
Incorporating a Beginners Rally - 7-9 MARCH 2008
The third South West Endurance Rally follows hot on the heels of the extremely successful Lombard Rally, using the same low-cost and very competitive up-to-1400cc (2000cc diesel) format. The event will be a round of the national Enduro 2008 Endurance Rally series.
Based very much on teamwork, the driver and navigator compete in "hatchback-style" rally cars in virtually showroom specification, with just a rollcage and some safety modifications. No service crews are allowed, just a bag of tools and good preparation. As in previous years, the event will be a true test of endurance for everyone involved.
Organised by South Hams Motor Club, Rally Director Roger Gillard and his team have again laid out a testing route. The 2008 event covers some 500 miles through the most beautiful regions of Devon and Cornwall.
Starting in Newton Abbot, the rally halts overnight in Plymouth, where it also finishes, with awards after breakfast on Sunday. Crews will be treated to a mixture of prime forest tracks and superb roads at private asphalt venues, totaling 110 competitive miles over two days. There will also be some simple regularity tests each evening.
New for 2008 is a "Beginners' Rally" on Saturday, incorporating 60 competitive miles for those who are new to the sport and want to see what it's all about.
The 2007 winner, Mike Biss had this to say:
"We would like to thank the organising team and all the marshals for putting on a superb event. We heard rave reviews from the previous year, so decided to give it a go. The reports were all true and the selectifs and organisation were second to none. If you haven't done the event before, you'll want to enter next year."
The 2007 rally raised £315 for an environmental programme in South Hams to offset the carbon emissions; £5 from each entry will be set aside for a similar project in 2008.
South Hams Motor Club wish to thank Andy Russell, MD of event sponsor Audi South West, for his continuing support.
