The Dakar Rally 2011 Official Review released on DVD
THE ULTIMATE MOTORSPORT ODYSSEY SETS A NEW STANDARD
The Dakar Rally is, undoubtedly, the greatest motorsport adventure on Earth, and now fans can join the drama with action-packed highlights from the 2011 edition.
More than 400 vehicles set out for a 14-day odyssey across 9,500 kilometres of the most spectacular, demanding and challenging terrain. The official review follows the adventure as it unfolds, with action footage, interviews and informed commentary.
As the motorcycles, cars, trucks and quads tackled 13 stages through Argentina and Chile, the adventurous competitors faced mountainous sand dunes, cavernous canyons, thick mud and everything else the amazing South American landscape could throw at them.
Cyril Despres and Marc Coma went head-to-head in the two-wheel battle, this time on identical KTM450 machines. They led the field, but were chased hard all the way by the following pack of BMWs, Aprilias, Yamahas and even a veteran Bultaco!
USA star Robby Gordon was back in his Hummer and Stephane Peterhansel was hoping his BMW X3 would be the class of the car field, but, once again, it was Volkswagen which led the way with its new Touareg.
That didn’t mean the fight for victory wasn’t tense – 2010 victor Carlos Sainz was pushed all the way by teammates Nasser Al-Attiyah, Giniel de Villiers and Mark Miller. As the second week of action got under way, former World Rally Champion Sainz’s hopes were hit by mechanical problems, mistakes and the harsh terrain. Qatar’s Al-Attiyah had victory in his grasp – but could he hold his nerve and overcome the unforgiving rocks, sand and mud of Argentina and Chile to win?
The official review of the Dakar Rally 2011 also follows the fortunes of the Quad class and the Trucks, where Tatra and Kamaz once again fought for honours.
This highlights package features action footage from the stages, including in-car cameras, interviews with the stars and some of the less well known competitors who make the Dakar Rally the event it is, plus on-screen graphics to help viewers follow this epic adventure.
