Latest additions to the classic RAC Rallies collection released on DVD
GREAT NAMES, GREAT CARS, GREAT VIEWING
Comprehensive highlights from the Lombard RAC Rallies held in 1987, 1988 and 1989 recall the titanic championship battle between Juha Kankkunen and Markku Alen, the car-breaking year when more than half the crews were forced out and the unforgettable battle of the Japanese giants.
These are the latest additions to the collectable series of classic RAC Rallies on DVD, and what amazing additions they are!
The 1987 RAC was the scene of Kankunnen and Alen’s head-to-head for the title, and this highlights programme captures ‘Maximum Attack’ Alen at his fiercest behind the wheel of Lancia Delta. His crash on day one is captured, as is his incredible fight back up the field to challenge teammate Kankunnen for the win.
Despite heartbreak in ’87, Alen was back for 1988 and his amazing victory on the RAC – at his 14th attempt – is just one of the fascinating stories on the 1988 RAC Rally highlights DVD. The emerging Japanese challenge, Mikael Ericsson’s dramatic spin – caught by an in-car camera, and Kankkunen’s rally-ending smash make this programme compelling viewing.
With Lancia sitting out the 1989 RAC Rally, the event would be dominated by Japanese manufacturers Toyota, Mitsubishi and Lancia. Just when it looked like the Celica GT-4s had it sewn up, the everunpredictable RAC delivered another surprise and a dramatic result which has to be seen to be believed. You’ll also want to catch the shocking footage of first Ari Vatanen and then Mark Lovell losing it big style in the forest stages.
Each programme is packed with footage of iconic rally cars blasting through the most challenging terrain, and weather, Britain has to offer. Stars like Kankkunen, Alen, Ari Vatanen, Stig Blomqvist, Timo Salonen and Hannu Mikkola makes this collection of DVDs a veritable “who’s who” of rallying legends.
Then there are the British heroes, including Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes, David Llewellin, Mark Lovell and a certain Colin McRae, plus a guest appearance by sportscar legend Derek Bell in his very first rally outing!
Each one of these highlights programme features awesome rally action, incredible on-board footage, interviews with all the stars, informed commentary and genuinely unmissable moments.
This is rallying at its best.
