Review of the World Rally Championships 1992 and 1993 released on DVD

The cars and stars that dominated World Rallying 15 years ago are now icons of this global sport.

Names like McRae, Kankkunen, Sainz, Vatanen and Auriol combine with the unforgettable Subarus, Toyotas, Lancias and Fords of the early 1990s to evoke memories of a golden era for rallying.

This evocative period is now captured on DVD with the release of comprehensive reviews of the 1992 and 1993 World Rally Championship seasons. These two new titles are latest additions to the collectable series of classic WRC reviews from Duke.

For British fans of rallying, 1993 will go down in history as the year the late Colin McRae stormed to his first win on a World Rally event. After a year blighted by mechanical problems, the Scot blasted his way to victory in New Zealand, finally earning the reward his talents deserved.

Colin’s 100 per cent commitment earned him a legion of fans, and that determination to win is clear to see in the ‘93 review, although sometimes his blistering pace is a little too hot!

The season saw seven different winners on the 13 rallies, and the review has action from every single round. As well as incredible footage from the special stages, there are fascinating interviews with the leading drivers, informed commentary and maps of rally routes.

The 1993 review also boasts a wealth of fantastic on-board footage, including McRae’s spin in Sweden, Sainz’s car-destroying roll in Portugal, Andrea Aghini’s shocking crash in Corsica and more.

The in-car cameras also catch near misses with fans in New Zealand and the sheer determination of these rallying greats.

The 1993 World Rally Championship Review is a drama-packed look back, including the incredible championship battle between Juha Kankkunen and Francois Delecour, bizarre Italian round where a privateer beat the reigning champion to victory and the tragic loss of a competitor in Australia.

The 1992 World Rally Championship Review, featuring all 14 rounds, is filled with just as much must-see action. Ari Vatanen’s Swedish ‘excursion’, the shocking Lancia barbecue on the Safari Rally, McRae’s Finnish roll, Sainz’s exceptional determination; the drama just keeps on coming.

The season-long battle between Sainz in the Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD and the Lancia Delta HF Integrales driven by Kankkunen and Auriol is edge-of-the-seat stuff, and with a support cast boasting the likes of McRae, Stig Blomqvist and more drama is guaranteed.

The official World Rally Championship 1992 and World Rally Championship 1993 DVD reviews are released 10th March, priced at £16.99 on DVD, from leading video outlets or direct from Duke Video: Tel 01624 640000, fax 01624 640001 or email mail@dukevideo.com. Visit www.dukevideo.com online.
